Friday 10/22

This week was spent at Univ. of Redlands, inspection @ Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamunga, a little trip up to Santa Barbara City College and back to Redlands to hang drapes.  There was a lot of driving.  The company probably spent over $300 dollars in fuel for my trips alone.  That doesn't count the other 2 people driving all over SoCal.  A long week-i'm glad its Friday.  Last weekend the Countess and I spent it in Tucson attending Shannon's wedding to Chris.

That was a very nice time.  At this time in my life I have to feel that it was being more considerate to invite us rather than wanting us there to witness the wedding, but either way I think we added an element of fun and family that would have been missed if we weren't there.  I think the happy couple enjoyed us being there.  I certainly enjoyed meeting the cousins from New England and spending time with all the other relatives.  It may be a while before we see them again.  Weddings and funerals are about the time we get  to find time and resources to go visit.

What did I learn today?

Today I sit in a motel room in El Centro, CA.  The outside temp is 102 and I have another 2 weeks of this.  This brings back all the past feelings of working in Tucson for so many years outside in this kind of heat and I don't like this at all.  But if I know anything it's that if you don't like something, in order for it to change you have to do something about it.  I won't do anything about this; yet.  I still need the results of this sacrifice too much.
Today, I was burnt again by not following through with what I thought was an insignificant incident at work.  I guy calls and says he twisted his ankle but will continue working since it didn't amount to much.  After 2 weeks it is amounting to much.  He calls the office and is going to go have it examined.  Is it coincidence that he has been off work last week and is not working this week and may think that a little workers comp may be in order?  Just a thought - don't know.  I just can't help think that trusting people to do the right thing just never works out.  The right thing being to realize this ankle will get better by itself just as all the other twists have in your life and simply get on with it without trying to get something for nothing.  Sometimes I am just so frustrated with how the work environment has gotten so "politically correct" in that no one is to put themselves out beyond any comfortable effort.  It's called "work" for a reason.  Getting hurt on the job is one thing, taking advantage of the system for personal gain is something totally different.

New addition to the family

The newest member of the family.  Adopted today from the Ventura County Animal Shelter.  Her name is Molly.  She is a bit skinny but that will change.  Seems to have a good temperment and is putting up with Murphy pretty well.

Murphy is our first cocker spaniel and is a bit excitable.  He has been an only dog and is not very doggie friendly but he does seem to be warming up to the new dog pretty well.  A good thing since this is going to be his companion for many years to come.  Just a happy little family.
